Abstract

AbstractIntroduction: Certain aspects of malocclusion, particularly deep bite, can be related to healthy of temporomandibular joints (TMJ). In orthodontics, deep bite has always been considered as a difficult anomaly to correct, but also as the one most hindering to solving the problems resulting from other associated malposition. The main objectives was to explain management of a patient with skeletal Class II with palatal deep bite, TMD and gummy smile by multiloop edgewise technique. Case Report: The patient was a 28-years-old male who had a skeletal Class II patterns. He had a concave facial profile with retrusion and retroclinated maxillary central incisor, palatal deep bite, gummy smile, and TMD in right side. Canine relation was class II on his right side, and class I on his left side. Molar relationship was class I on his right and left sides. He has complaints of the right jaw joint clicking and pain during functional activity. The treatment was carried out with a multiloop edgewise technique for around ten months, starting with levelling and aligning the maxillary and mandibular arch. Followed by flaring and intrusion of the maxillary and mandibular incisors. Conclusion: Orthodontic treatment using the Multiloop edgewise technique resulted in normal overjet and overbite, reduced TMD complaints, and corrected gummy smile.

Abstract

AbstractIntroduction: Tooth transposition is a rare dental anomaly where two adjacent teeth switch positions within the dental arch. It most commonly involves the maxillary canines and lateral incisors or premolars. The main objectives was to provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of the Edgewise technique in managing tooth transposition and contribute to the development of more refined orthodontic treatment approaches. Case Report: The patient is a 27-year-old male presenting with a Class I dentoskeletal malocclusion, characterized by prognathic maxilla and mandible. His intraoral examination revealed dental types 1, 2, and 3, with the maxillary and mandibular arches exhibiting significant crowding. The patient had a prominent convex facial profile, contributing to facial asymmetry. His primary complaint includes misaligned and chipped anterior teeth, specifically the upper front teeth, which have gaps and are not arranged neatly. The treatment was carried out with a multiloop edgewise technique, starting with extraction of teeth 14, 24, 44 and 35, levelling and aligning the maxillary and mandibular arch. Followed Space opening for tooth 22 in the maxillary arch, distalization of canina, and En-masse retraction of the four maxillary and mandibula incisors. Conclusion: Orthodontic treatment using the Multiloop edgewise technique was successfully addressed both aesthetic andfunctional concerns, particularly the transposition of teeth 22 and 23.
