Abstract

Indigenous Dayak communities play an important role in strengthening citizenship through social development rooted in local wisdom. Values such as handep (mutual cooperation), hakok (helping one another), and belom bahadat (living with dignity) form the foundation for social solidarity and collective responsibility. This study aims to analyze how Dayak local wisdom contributes to the strengthening of active citizenship in Central Kalimantan. Using a qualitative method with a literature review approach, this research draws on Coleman’s (1990) theory of social capital and Hoskins and Mascherini’s (2009) concept of active citizenship. The results of the analysis show that the integration of customary values into development programs gives rise to a form of participatory citizenship rooted in local cultural identity. Dayak people function as social agents who strengthen trust, solidarity, and citizen participation in inclusive and equitable social development.
