Abstract

Background: Delusion is a core positive symptom of schizophrenia, and psychoreligious interventions are widely used in Indonesian psychiatric nursing, yet their effect on delusion itself is rarely documented, especially when the result is null. Methods: A descriptive single-case study with a nursing care approach, reported with reference to the CARE guidelines, was conducted on Mr. J at Dr. Radjiman Wediodiningrat Regional Mental Hospital, Lawang, Indonesia, from 30 May to 2 June 2023. Data came from interview, observation, physical examination, and record review. Al-Qur'an reading therapy (ablution, seated recitation, about 10 minutes) was given in two sessions. Results: Mr. J reported reduced stress, unease, and anxiety and a greater sense of calm. No change in the intensity or content of his delusional beliefs was observed, and no precipitating factor was identified. No standardized symptom scale was used. Conclusion: The therapy provided short-term emotional comfort but showed no demonstrable effect on delusion after two brief sessions, consistent with evidence that psychoreligious interventions are best supported for anxiety and stress. As a single case, the findings are not generalizable; the therapy is best used as a longer-term adjunct to pharmacological and psychosocial care.
