Abstract

This study aimed to examine the implementation of a forward-reverse teaching aid for a single-phase induction motor as a learning medium and to identify changes in students’ understanding in the Electric Motor Control Practicum. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design was employed. The participants were 12 students. Data were collected through pretests, posttests, and a student response questionnaire following learning activities using the forward-reverse teaching aid. The findings showed that the students’ mean score increased from 83.33 in the pretest to 90.83 in the posttest, representing an increase of 7.50 points. The teaching aid enabled students to connect their understanding of control circuits with direct observation of contactors, push buttons, timers, overload relays, interlocking systems, and changes in motor rotation. Students’ responses to the teaching aid reached 78.33%, categorized as agree. The study was limited to 12 students and employed a single-group design without a control group; therefore, the observed improvement cannot be attributed solely to the teaching aid. The assessment also focused primarily on conceptual understanding rather than detailed practical skills. The findings imply that the teaching aid can support practical learning by connecting theoretical concepts with concrete learning experiences.
