Abstract

This study was motivated by the low level of students' social awareness in social studies learning at Islamic elementary schools. The purpose of this study was to describe the implementation process of local wisdom-based social studies learning and to determine the improvement of students' social awareness. This research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles, consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects of this study were 35 fourth-grade students at MIN 1 Tuban, consisting of 15 male and 20 female students. Data collection techniques included observation, questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that the implementation of local wisdom-based social studies learning improved students' social awareness. This was indicated by the increase in the percentage of students' social awareness from 54% in the pre-cycle to 71% in the first cycle, and further increased to 86% in the second cycle. In addition, students' participation and learning activities also improved significantly. In conclusion, local wisdom-based social studies learning is effective in improving the social awareness of fourth-grade students in Islamic elementary schools.
