Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of a deep learning approach in Indonesian Language learning in Grade XI at SMA Muhammadiyah Lamahala Jaya, East Flores Regency. The study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation involving the Indonesian Language teacher and Grade XI students. Data were analyzed through data reduction and triangulation to identify the implementation process, learning strategies, and challenges encountered in applying deep learning. The findings show that the implementation of the three pillars of deep learning, namely meaningful learning, mindful learning, and joyful learning, encouraged a more active, reflective, contextual, and student-centered learning process. Meaningful learning was implemented by connecting learning materials with students’ experiences and environment. Mindful learning was developed through reflection, analysis, and awareness of the learning process. Joyful learning was realized through discussions, collaborative activities, writing activities, and learning experiences that created a positive classroom atmosphere. These strategies provided opportunities for students to understand texts, develop ideas, think critically, and actively participate in the learning process. The implementation of deep learning still faced challenges related to limited technological infrastructure, teacher competence, and curriculum flexibility. The study indicates that deep learning can be adapted to students’ characteristics, Indonesian Language learning materials, and the available resources of the school. Strengthening teacher competence, providing appropriate learning facilities, and institutional policy support are needed to sustain its implementation.
