Abstract

As the largest archipelagic country located on the Ring of Fire, Indonesia experiences a very high frequency of natural disasters. The speed of individual response is a key determinant of safety, especially in the concept of the first 72 hours after a disaster. However, in a state of panic, ordinary people tend to carry non-essential items in makeshift bags. This study aims to design a disaster preparedness bag that is ergonomic, functional, and meets the needs of the Indonesian people. The method used is SCAMPER to modify the bag's features and Ulrich & Eppinger for concept development, selection of the best design, and prototype creation. Based on a survey via Google Form, problems were identified during evacuation and the need for emergency equipment. Based on the SCAMPER analysis, three alternative concept designs were generated. Through the concept selection process, the third design was selected as the best concept for implementation with specifications of a bag height of 43 cm, a bag width of 30 cm, a distance between shoulder straps of 20 cm, a shoulder strap width of 7 cm, and a bag handle of 10 cm, which are in accordance with the anthropometry of Indonesian people of productive age.
