Abstract

The construction sector presents considerable occupational health and safety challenges, particularly the risk of work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) associated with physically demanding tasks, manual material handling, and non-neutral working postures. This study assesses ergonomic risks among workers on a four-story residential building project using the Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) method. Data were collected through direct observation, photographic documentation, and postural assessment of four workers performing distinct activities: removing nails from wooden beams, lifting cement bags, transporting cement, and adding sand to a cement mixture. The REBA scores were 10, 9, 10, and 10, respectively, placing all activities in the high-risk category and indicating the need for prompt corrective action. The identified risks were primarily associated with trunk flexion, manual handling of materials, high physical exertion, and repetitive movements. These findings underscore the importance of systematic ergonomic interventions, including improved working postures, appropriate material-handling aids, optimized work–rest schedules, and strengthened occupational safety practices. Such measures may reduce ergonomic exposure and the potential risk of MSDs while supporting a safer and more sustainable construction work environment.
