Abstract

The development of telemetry systems has expanded beyond professional motorsport applications to energy-efficient electric vehicles in student research competitions. These vehicles prioritize lightweight structures and optimized energy consumption; however, such design constraints often limit the integration of comprehensive safety systems. This study presents the design and implementation of an Accident Response Telemetry for Electric Vehicle (ARTEV) system for real-time accident detection and emergency notification. The system integrates an MPU6050 accelerometer–gyroscope sensor to monitor acceleration and orientation changes, a YL-99 vibration sensor to detect physical impacts, and a Neo-6M GPS module to determine vehicle location. All sensors are managed by an ESP8266 microcontroller as the main control unit. A threshold-based algorithm processes acceleration and rotational data to distinguish normal road vibrations from collision-induced impacts. When accident conditions are detected, the SIM800L GSM module automatically transmits short message service (SMS) notifications containing geographic coordinates, ensuring reliable communication without internet dependency. A buzzer is incorporated as a local warning indicator for the driver. Experimental testing demonstrates that the ARTEV system can detect collision events and delivering location-based emergency notifications effectively, thereby improving operational safety in energy-efficient electric vehicles.
