Abstract

This study was motivated by concerns over the weakening of local cultural identity and the growing challenges of religious moderation in the digital age, which is characterized by the flow of global information and social polarization. Amid these conditions, the village of Pariangan has demonstrated its ability to maintain social harmony through the integration of traditional and religious values. This study aims to analyze the relevance of Minangkabau traditions in fostering religious moderation among the millennial generation and to identify the social mechanisms that support its sustainability. The study employs a qualitative approach using a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation involving Ninik Mamak, religious leaders, officials of the Kerapatan Adat Nagari (KAN), and millennials. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and thematic conclusion-drawing. The results indicate that adat is understood as an adaptive ethical framework and serves as social capital in confronting modernity. The value of religious moderation is internalized through the philosophy of Adat Basandi Syarak, Syarak Basandi Kitabullah (ABS-SBK), the practice of deliberation, and the cultural mechanism of tabayyun. This study concludes that adat functions as an effective instrument in strengthening identity, social cohesion, and the sustainability of religious moderation in the digital age.
