Background: Exposure to free radicals and accumulation of dead skin cells can cause dull skin and premature aging. Purple sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) and butterfly pea flower (Clitoria ternatea L.) contain anthocyanins and flavonoids that possess strong antioxidant activity and have the potential to be developed into Body scrub preparations. Purpose: To formulate a Body scrub containing purple sweet potato and butterfly pea flower extracts and evaluate the effect of triethanolamine (TEA) concentration on physical stability and antioxidant activity. Method: This experimental study used four formulations containing different TEA concentrations, namely 0% (F1), 1% (F2), 2% (F3), and 3% (F4). Physical evaluations included organoleptic test, homogeneity, pH, spreadability, adhesiveness, irritation test, and cycling test stability. Antioxidant activity was determined using the DPPH method and expressed as IC₅₀ values. Results: Formulations F2, F3, and F4 showed good physical stability and met the requirements of topical preparations, while F1 showed instability due to the absence of emulsifier. Antioxidant activity testing demonstrated IC₅₀ values of 10.31 ppm (F1), 11.20 ppm (F2), 13.63 ppm (F3), and 32.68 ppm (F4), indicating very strong antioxidant activity. Increased TEA concentration tended to increase pH and reduce antioxidant activity. Conclusion: Variation of TEA concentration affected the physical stability and antioxidant activity of Body scrub preparations. Formula F3 containing 2% TEA provided the most optimal balance between physical stability and antioxidant effectiveness.
