Abstract

This community service activity was carried out in Oelolot Village, Rote Ndao Regency, with the aim of empowering the community through the integration of community-based plastic waste management and the improvement of entrepreneurial skills. Oelolot Village faces environmental problems in the form of an increasing volume of inorganic waste, especially plastic bags and cups, which have not been handled optimally. On the other hand, economic limitations and high unemployment rates demand creative solutions to generate additional income. This program offers training in processing plastic waste into decorative products with selling value, such as aesthetic plastic flowers and recycled pots. The implementation method uses a participatory approach (Participatory Rural Appraisal) and direct practical learning (Action Learning) that is tailored to the socio-cultural characteristics of the local community. To ensure sustainability, a community-based business group with a clear organizational structure, regular mentoring, and offline and online marketing networks is formed. Evaluation was carried out on the process, number of products, economic impact, and reduction in waste volume. With a budget of IDR 20,000,000 and a duration of six months, this activity produces ready-to-sell handicraft products, independent business groups, training modules, and scientific publications. This program is expected to be able to reduce plastic waste, increase environmental awareness, and create a sustainable source of income based on the creative economy.
