Abstract

The stability of electrical parameters in a generator set (genset) under high load conditions is a primary indicator of the reliability of a backup power supply system. This study aims to analyze the operational feasibility of a 350 kVA (280 kW) diesel genset unit with specific reference to the performance criteria established by ISO 8528-5:2025. The methodology employed in this research is a quantitative experimental design using a field observation approach through step-load bank testing. The measurement results indicate that the unit meets the G3 performance class criteria, characterized by exceptional frequency stability within the 49.98–50.02 Hz range (maximum deviation of ±0.02 Hz) under stable operating conditions. Capacity testing demonstrated the ability to sustain a peak load of 205.3 kW (84% of active capacity), confirming the system's capability to maintain voltage regulation at 388 V with a deviation of only -3% from the nominal value of 400 V. Current unbalance analysis showed a linear correlation, where the unbalance value decreased drastically from 10.87% at low loads to below 1% at optimal loads. This study concludes that the generator unit exhibits highly reliable and responsive performance in supporting critical facility loads in compliance with international standards.
