Abstract

While the rise of social media use among adolescents facilitates communication and self-expression, excessive use can be linked to the emergence of narcissistic behaviors and impacts on psychological well-being. This study aimed to examine the relationship between narcissistic behavior in social media usage and the psychological well-being of 11th-grade students at SMAN 2 Pamekasan. A quantitative, correlational research design was employed. The study population consisted of 360 11th-grade students, with a sample size of 190 students. Data were collected using a five-point Likert scale questionnaire and analyzed using SPSS version 25, involving tests for normality, linearity, and Pearson Product-Moment correlation. The results revealed a correlation coefficient of -0.304 with a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant relationship between narcissistic behavior in social media usage and student psychological well-being. The negative correlation, albeit weak in strength, suggests that higher levels of narcissistic behavior in social media usage are associated with lower levels of psychological well-being among students. These findings can serve as a reference for Guidance and Counseling teachers when providing services to students regarding healthy and positive social media usage.
