Abstract

A fracture is a condition in which bone and/or cartilage tissue is partially or completely broken, often requiring surgical intervention that may result in postoperative pain. Pain management can be achieved through pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches. This case study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of early mobilization as an evidence-based nursing intervention for reducing pain in postoperative fracture patients. A descriptive case study design was employed following the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Pain intensity was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). The study involved one postoperative fracture patient selected through accidental sampling. Data were collected through interviews, physical examinations, observations, measurements, and documentation. The findings showed that the primary nursing problem was acute pain following surgery. After five consecutive days of early mobilization, the patient's pain intensity decreased from a score of 7 to 2 on the NRS. These results indicate that early mobilization is an effective non-pharmacological intervention for reducing postoperative pain and supports faster recovery. Therefore, incorporating early mobilization into evidence-based nursing practice can improve pain management and enhance the quality of postoperative care for fracture patients.
