Abstract

Acute pain complaints dominate inpatient wards, yet patients tend to remain passive and dependent on chemical analgesics due to the lack of applicable non-pharmacological educational media at the bedside. To enhance patients' independent self-management in controlling acute pain intensity through audio-visual-based education. This community service project was conducted on May 22, 2026, at RSUD Serpong Utara, involving 15 inpatients with mild-to-moderate acute pain. The personalized intervention utilized bedside teaching with a 4-minute educational video on deep breathing relaxation and distraction techniques, accessed via bedside QR Code plaques. Knowledge was measured using oral pre- and post-test questionnaires, psychomotor skills via the Teach-Back method, and pain intensity using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) 0–10. Prior to the intervention, most patients (60%) had "Poor" knowledge, with an average pain score of 5.2 (Moderate Pain). Post-intervention, "Good" knowledge surged to 80%, with no patients remaining in the "Poor" category. Patients demonstrated the techniques independently with $\ge 80\%$ accuracy. Clinically, the average subjective pain intensity scale decreased significantly from 5.2 to 2.4 (Mild Pain). The implementation of audio-visual education integrated with a bedside QR Code system effectively improves patients' self-management capacity and successfully reduces acute pain intensity during hospitalization.
