Abstract

Patient understanding of non-clinical service information is essential for ensuring smooth hospital services and may be influenced by internal and external factors. Preliminary observations at RSUD Petala Bumi, Riau Province, indicated that some patients experienced difficulties understanding registration procedures, service schedules, and administrative processes. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between internal and external factors and patients’ understanding of non-clinical outpatient service information. A quantitative cross-sectional design was used. Internal factors included age, education level, and previous treatment experience, while external factors comprised information media, staff information delivery, and information accessibility. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed through univariate analysis and the Chi-square test. The findings showed that age (p = 0.337), education level (p = 0.539), and information media (p = 0.576) were not significantly associated with patient understanding. However, treatment experience (p < 0.001), staff information delivery (p < 0.001), and information accessibility (p = 0.007) showed significant associations. Improving staff communication and information accessibility is recommended to enhance patients’ understanding of non-clinical service information.
