Abstract

Bronchial asthma is a chronic respiratory disease characterized by recurrent exacerbations that significantly affect patients' quality of life. Health education is a non-pharmacological intervention that plays an important role in improving patients' knowledge, preventive behaviors, treatment adherence, and self-management abilities. This study employed a systematic review method based on the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. A literature search was conducted using PubMed, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, DOAJ, Garuda, and SINTA to identify articles published between 2017 and 2026. Article selection was performed using the PICOS framework. Of the 96 articles initially identified, 9 met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed using a narrative synthesis approach. Most studies demonstrated that health education had a positive effect on improving patients' knowledge, relapse prevention behaviors, treatment adherence, and self-management skills among individuals with bronchial asthma. The interventions included Asthma Self-Management Education, health counseling, audiovisual-based education, and other health education programs. All included studies reported improvements following the interventions, although variations existed in study design, sample size, and educational methods. Health education is an effective intervention for enhancing the ability of patients with bronchial asthma to prevent disease recurrence. The integration of health education into nursing practice and primary healthcare services is recommended to improve disease control, while further studies employing more rigorous research designs are needed to strengthen the existing scientific evidence.
