Abstract

Motorsport events have become an increasingly significant form of sport tourism, attracting large numbers of domestic and international visitors while generating notable economic activity in the surrounding region. However, the extent to which such events translate into memorable tourist experiences, sustained visitation beyond the event period, and equitable local economic benefits remains insufficiently understood. Existing studies have largely emphasized the economic impact, destination image, and marketing dimensions of motorsport tourism, while qualitative accounts linking event attractiveness to tourist experience, satisfaction, and revisit intention are still limited. This study aims to examine the role of motorsport events, particularly MotoGP Mandalika, as a tourist attraction that shapes memorable tourist experiences; to identify the factors that hinder sustained visitation and equitable economic distribution beyond the event period; and to formulate development strategies for motorsport-based sport tourism that strengthen tourist experience while promoting sustainable and inclusive tourism. The discussion draws on sport tourism, tourist experience, sustainable tourism, and local economic inclusivity literature to build a conceptual foundation for further empirical investigation. The findings are expected to provide practical recommendations for destination managers and policymakers seeking to maximize the long-term tourism and economic value of motorsport events for local communities.
