Abstract

This study analyses differences in news framing by CNN Indonesia and Reuters regarding the food poisoning incident in the Free Nutritious Meals Program (MBG). The objective of this study is to understand how both media outlites frame the issue and how these framing differences influence  public perceptions of responsibility and the proposed solution. Based on Robert Entman’s (1993)  framing theory, which includes problem definition, identification of causes , moral evaluation, and recommendations for solutions, this analysis shows that CNN  Indonesia focuses more on social impacts and structural causes, while reutuers emphasizes issues of oversight and policy criticism regarding program management. These findings indicate that the framing used the media influences how the public views the issue, with CNN Indonesia prioritizing technical and local issues, whereas reuters highlights broader systemic problem. Practically , this study provides insights for the media and policymakers regarding the importance of selecting the appropriate framing in shaping public opinion. Additionally, this study expands the examination of framing within the context of food and healty policies, and introduces a comparative approach between local and international  media.
