Abstract

This research aims to: (1) produce an e-Book on sound waves that is suitable for improving the independence and cognitive learning outcomes of high school students, (2) determine the effectiveness of the e-Book on sound waves in improving the independence and cognitive learning outcomes of high school students, and (3) produce a practical e-Book on sound waves to improve the independence and cognitive learning outcomes of high school students. This research is a Research and Development (R&D) study using the ADDIE development model: Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate. The validators consisted of two expert lecturers and three teachers for product validation and instrument content validity. The research subjects included 180 students for the empirical validity of the instrument, 36 students for the product readability test, and 108 students for the implementation test. The sampling technique for the empirical validity and implementation test subjects used cluster sampling, while the readability test subjects used purposive sampling. This research design used a pretest-posttest control group. The research instruments consisted of tests and non-tests. The test instruments included a pretest and posttest of high school students' cognitive learning outcomes. Meanwhile, the non-test instruments consisted of a product feasibility questionnaire, an instrument content validity questionnaire, and a readability questionnaire. The instrument content validity used Aiken's V and item analysis used the partial credit model. The product feasibility data analysis technique used categorization based on the mean and ideal standard deviation, while the product effectiveness analysis technique used parametric tests in the form of MANOVA and effect size.  The results of this study indicate that: (1) an e-Book on sound waves has been produced that is suitable for use to improve students' independence and cognitive learning outcomes based on the assessment of expert lecturers and teachers with a very good category, (2) the use of an e-Book on sound waves is effective for improving the independence and cognitive learning outcomes of high school students with a large effect size category, (3) an e-Book on sound waves has been produced that is practical for use to improve the independence and cognitive learning outcomes of high school students.
