Abstract

Land-use change and population growth increase travel demand, yet studies of trip production and attraction at the district scale in the coastal area of Bantaeng Regency remain limited. This study identifies the magnitude and pattern of residents' routine trip production and attraction among functional zones in Bissappu District and interprets them against land-use characteristics. Primary data were collected through household interviews with 300 randomly selected respondents on 16 and 18 May 2023. Production and attraction were derived from a single Origin-Destination Matrix (ODM), interaction intensity between zones was classified using Sturges' rule, and movement patterns were visualized as desire lines. The survey recorded 410 trips among seven functional zones. The residential zone was the largest producer (311 trips; 75.9%), while the trade and services zone was the largest attractor (204 trips; 49.8%) despite occupying only 0.41% of the study area. The residential-to-trade-and-services flow (152 trips; 37.1%) was the only high-intensity interaction, followed by moderate flows from the residential zone to education and health zones. The findings indicate that trip attraction is concentrated in a single activity node, which calls for access management, spatial planning of the trade and services area, and land-use directions that accommodate this travel pattern.
