Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has drastically disrupted all business sectors in Indonesia such as the arts, cultural, and entertainment industries. This circumstance necessitated the conversion of numerous conventional movie theatres and online streaming providers. This scientific article examined the impact of the pandemic on the entertainment industry, specifically theatres of XXI and CGV and movie streaming; Disney+Hotstar and Netflix.  The qualitative method was used to develop this research. The dataset was taken from the survey taken from McKinsey Company website in 2020 and articles. The authors conducted an analysis of the changes based on two theories; New Media from  Martin Lister, Jon Dovey, Seth Giddings and Kieran Kelly and Uses and Gratification Theory from Katz, Blumler, and Gurevitch. The research findings demonstrate that internet streaming services can meet the entertainment needs of lonely individuals at home and result in a paradigm shift away from the belief that new films are only released in theatres.

Abstract

Numerous Indonesian celebrities moving to YouTube have dominated the viewership and trending segments. The researchers chose Deddy Corbuzier, Baim Wong, Raffi Ahmad, and Nagita Slavina as they are celebrities who transitioned to YouTube and achieved success after only a few years of its existence. Using Bourdieu's social capital theory, the researchers identified celebrities' capitals that give them an advantage when transitioning to YouTube. Capitals resulted in dominance and elevated celebrities to celebrity status. According to Bourdieu, cultural capital may play a significant role in pursuing power and position within a community. This condition, we believe, exists as a result of the relationship between celebrities and their fans. Celebrities attempt to attract fans through the use of YouTube in order to achieve power. As a result, YouTube celebrities view these opportunities as business opportunities that eventually lead to financial success.

Abstract

The art of humor often leaves a lasting impression, especially when it connects to joyful memories. Nostalgia refers to a longing for the past, often tied to moments of laughter and happiness. This study analyzes Warkop DKI Reborn: Jangkrik Boss Part 1 as a modern reflection of nostalgia for the original Warkop DKI films, focusing on the humor that defined the series. The study also examines YouTube comments to understand how audiences perceive the film's humor. A qualitative approach is used, with data from Warkop DKI - Chips (1982) Full Movie on the @LetsuGauki YouTube channel and WARKOP DKI Reborn | Jangkrik Boss Part 1 | Kalau Mau Dosa Sekalian Banyak, uploaded by Falcon YouTube. The analysis draws on the theories of Nostalgia for the Present from Salmose (2019), Mise en Scene from Manon de Reeper (2016), and Media Studies from Ott (2014). The findings indicate that the characters, costumes, humor, and settings in both the original and reborn films evoke a deep sense of nostalgia among Indonesians, demonstrating how the art of humor continues to bridge generations and maintain cultural relevance.

Korean pop (K-pop) culture has become a global phenomenon, significantly influencing youth lifestyles and fashion trends, especially in countries like Indonesia. Abstract

Stand-up comedy has emerged as a dynamic medium within the media industry, capturing the interest of both comedians and audiences alike. In Indonesia, it serves not only as a form of entertainment but also as a cultural platform to reflect and critique various social issues—one of which is ethnicity. This study explores how Indo-Chinese identity is represented in the stand-up comedy material of Ernest Prakasa, a prominent Indonesian comedian of Chinese descent. Employing Van Dijk’s critical discourse analysis, this qualitative research examines the ways in which ethnic stereotypes are constructed, negotiated, and commodified through humor. The data is drawn from Prakasa’s performance titled “Gua Ernest dan Gua Cina”, as broadcast on the KompasTV YouTube channel. The findings reveal that humor in Indonesian stand-up comedy functions beyond mere entertainment; it also operates as a cultural commodity that both reinforces and challenges ethnic stereotypes. Specifically, Ernest strategically uses self-deprecating humor and irony to normalize Indo-Chinese identity in the public sphere while simultaneously critiquing the underlying prejudices. This dual function of humor suggests that stand-up comedy can serve as a subtle yet powerful tool for social commentary and ethnic negotiation in contemporary Indonesian society.
