Abstract

Multimoda transportation (MTO) can be interpreted as a method of transporting cargo from one location to another using at least two or more different modes of transportation. The main principle of multimodal transportation is that there is only one bill of lading even though it involves several modes of transportation such as air, rail, land or sea. Multimodal transportation activities, in accordance with Ministerial Regulation No. 8 of 2012, can only be held by multimodal transport business entities, both national and foreign business entities. In carrying out multimodal transportation activities, the MTO business entity is responsible for supporting multimodal transportation activities which include managing transportation, warehousing, cargo consolidation, provision of cargo space, and customs for multimodal transportation to and from abroad. For a business entity, a business license or legality is a form of obedience to the law. The legality referred to here is a legally valid permit for all business activities carried out. All national MTO business entities must be able to provide multimodal transportation services that meet applicable safety and security standards. In order to guarantee the realization of effectiveness and efficiency in the implementation of the national logistics system, it is necessary to ensure that every MTO organizing business entity has fulfilled the legality aspect in accordance with the applicable regulations. This study aims to review the legality of operating multimodal transport operators in realizing the effectiveness of the national logistics system in order to determine the legality of operating multimodal transport in the Denpasar area. The data collection technique in this study is by means of literature studies and surveys (questionnaires and interviews) which will then be analyzed using a qualitative descriptive analysis method.

Abstract

Transportation by land, sea, and air is one of the extensive ways to ship goods. Trains are one of the popular ways of land transportation. Goods sent by train are included in the category of retail or containers. Jakarta Gudang Station Gudang handles the delivery of Parcel Ons, and there are ten dispatchers who have signed contracts for this service. A series of goods are sent through the train fleet by the Freight Transportation division of PT. Indonesian Railways (Persero). Customers will not use our services again if they are not satisfied. We are confident that our customers are not satisfied with a particular problem. One way to find out if customers are satisfied with the service is to fill out a survey. The study aims to determine how effective rail transportation services are in transporting business-to-business (B2B) and customer-to-business (B2C) goods. The goal is to ensure that the goods reach their intended destination. . Observations, interviews, and analysis of documents are used to collect data. To compare the volume of cargo transported by two types of business services, the ANOVA test is used. Freight transportation services by rail are divided into container freight transportation and retail freight transportation (small package ounces). Jakarta Gudang Station carries out package delivery and collaborates with 10 expeditions. PT KAI (Persero) provides railways for the transportation of goods and, has found that the services provided have an impact on customer satisfaction. Service failures can lead to customer dissatisfaction, which can be measured using surveys. So far, customers are happy with the service provided. Due to the very limited capacity of highways in some countries, such as Trans Java traffic, certain routes require capacity building and the construction of new lines gradually.

Abstract

In big cities like Jabodetabek, transportation plays an important role in daily life. According to PT KAI statistics, one of the most popular land transportation routes in this area for local residents is the KRL Commuter Line between 2022 and 2024. This study aims to determine the number of KRL Commuter Line users in Jabodetabek, explain the variables that influence the number of users, and provide recommendations to improve the comfort and facilities offered on the KRL Commuter Line, especially in Jabodetabek. The method used in this study is purposive sampling, by interviewing KRL Commuter Line users in Jabodetabek. Descriptive analysis was used to examine the data collected, the findings showed that more people are using the KRL Commuter Line in 2024. Employees who consider the KRL Commuter Line more efficient because of its regular departure schedule and students who consider it cheaper than other modes of transportation are some of the factors that influence this growth.

Abstract

This study examines air cargo capacity management strategies in the post-COVID-19 era, focusing on the role of multimodal air freight forwarding. The imbalance between rising shipment demand and limited carrying capacity remains a major challenge for the global logistics industry. The study aims to analyze the impacts of the air cargo capacity crisis, assess multimodal strategies as adaptive solutions, and explore capacity management challenges in Indonesia. A descriptive qualitative method was applied using literature study, based on secondary data from international institution reports, academic journals, and national statistics. The results show that integrating sea, land, and air modes supported by data-driven management systems improves the efficiency of global air cargo capacity management. At the national level, strengthening domestic multimodal infrastructure is essential for enhancing capacity management efficiency in Indonesia. This research contributes to industrial engineering development in adaptive data-based multimodal logistics capacity management.

Abstract

Indonesia's logistics costs remain high, at around 23-24% of PDB, well above the global average and that of other Southeast Asian countries, reducing national competitiveness. Land transportation contributes about 50% of domestic logistics costs. Multimodal transportation-combining multiple modes under one contract-is an efficient solution by simplifying administration and lowering costs. The national logistics system (Sislognas) continues to be developed through technology investment and stakeholder collaboration. Initiatives such as the National Logistics Ecosystem (NLE) and Indonesia National Single Window (INSW) 2.0 accelerate administrative processes and reduce waiting times at ports, thereby helping to reduce logistics costs. The transformation of INSW into Lembaga National Single Window (LNSW) strengthens the integration and coordination of the national logistics system. With multimodal and digitized processes, logistics cost efficiency is expected to improve, supporting Indonesia's economic growth and competitiveness.

Abstract

Transportation in Indonesia faces challenges of congestion, high costs, and uneven infrastructure. Information technology is essential for developing an integrated multimodal land transportation system to improve efficiency, transparency, and data management. A systematic literature review (2010-2025) shows that IoT, GPS, ITS, real-time tracking, EDI, Big Data, and AI improve operational performance. Case studies reveal the great potential of IT, despite infrastructure, human resources, and interoperability constraints. Regulations support digitization, but more coordination and investment is needed. Recommendations include infrastructure improvement, human resource development, standardization, and collaboration among stakeholders for an efficient and sustainable transportation system. Optimal implementation of information technology will be key to the success of national transportation transformation.

Abstract

Multimodal transport and freight forwarding play a crucial role in Indonesia's logistics system, especially given its archipelagic geography. This research analyzes the challenges, roles, and government initiatives related to these two sectors. Multimodal transport is defined as the carriage of goods using at least two different modes under a single contract, with the Multimodal Transport Operator (MTO) bearing full responsibility. Meanwhile, freight forwarding involves arranging and coordinating commodity shipments across borders, helping companies simplify processes and enhance efficiency. Notwithstanding their critical importance, Indonesia faces a number of obstacles in implementing multimodal transportation and freight forwarding, such as inadequate infrastructure, intricate regulations, operational problems, and a lack of human resource competency. The government has responded with initiatives such as the National Logistics System Masterplan (Sislognas), National Logistics Ecosystem (NLE) program, digitalization policies (IoT, AI), investment incentives, and human resource development programs. This study employs a comprehensive literature review approach, drawing from recent journals, articles, and books to qualitatively analyze the issues. The analysis reveals that synergy between multimodal transport and freight forwarding, supported by government policies and technology adoption, is essential for enhancing national logistics efficiency and global competitiveness. Recommendations include increased infrastructure investment, regulatory harmonization, accelerated digitalization, and strengthened human resource capacity and public-private partnerships.
