Abstract

Purpose – This community service program aims to enhance financial literacy and product branding capacity of the home-based food MSME Dapur HaRaZ in Tamalanrea Jaya Village, Makassar, through mentoring in financial reporting and product packaging development as an effort to strengthen business professionalism. Design/methodology/approach – The community service activities were carried out using a participatory–applicative approach by actively involving the partner from the problem identification stage through to the implementation of the mentoring outcomes. The interventions focused on mentoring in financial transaction recording, calculation of Cost of Production (CoP), preparation of simple profit–loss statements, as well as training in product label and packaging design. All activities were conducted through hands-on practice using accessible tools, namely Microsoft Excel for financial recording and Canva for packaging design. Findings – The results indicate that the partner was able to prepare daily financial records, calculate CoP per product more accurately, and produce a packaging label design that was directly applied to the products. In addition, the partner began to implement visual brand identity in promotional activities through WhatsApp Business and Instagram. These changes improved the partner’s understanding of the business’s financial condition and strengthened the product’s visual identity. Originality/value – This program offers an integrated mentoring model that combines financial literacy and packaging branding within a single practice-based community service cycle, which can be replicated for home-based food MSMEs to promote more systematic and sustainable business management.
