Abstract

Purpose: This community service project aimed to strengthen quality management in a refillable drinking water Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) through internal quality audit assistance, improving operational control, sanitation compliance, product consistency, and service quality.Research Methodology: A participatory approach combined observation, interviews, document reviews, field inspections, and evaluative discussions with owners and operators. Assistance followed ISO 9001:2015 principles and applicable drinking water regulations to identify nonconformities, strengthen documentation, and develop independent monitoring capabilities. Results: Audits identified delayed filter replacement, inconsistent sanitation, incomplete records, and irregular laboratory testing. Corrective actions introduced scheduled maintenance, daily sanitation checklists, standardised documentation, and periodic laboratory testing with the local health office. Equipment cleanliness reached approximately 90%, while customer satisfaction reached approximately 90%, particularly concerning water clarity, cleanliness, and delivery punctuality. Operational discipline improved, service delays decreased, and sanitation compliance strengthened. Conclusions: Internal quality audit assistance improved operational management, quality assurance, and customer confidence through systematic monitoring and corrective actions.Limitations: The project involved one MSME within a limited observation period, restricting generalisability and assessment of sustained improvements.Contributions: The project provides a practical audit assistance model and relates its findings to the contemporary Quality 4.0 framework. Strengthened staff capabilities, standardised processes, and documented monitoring provide organisational foundations for future digital quality management, while supporting independent supervision and continuous improvement in similar small enterprises.
