Abstract

Barat Village, Padang District, Lumajang Regency, faces waste management challenges due to the absence of an integrated waste management system, causing residents to dispose of waste into rivers, vacant land, and plantations. This community service program aimed to develop and implement the RE SMART Ecosystem as a collaborative community empowerment model based on mindfulness, circular economy, digital transformation, and institutional strengthening. The program was conducted through observation, education, training, mentoring, institutional strengthening, development of waste management facilities, implementation of the SMART Digital Waste Bank, and monitoring and evaluation. The results demonstrated positive behavioral changes in waste disposal practices, the establishment of an operational waste management system and SMART Waste Bank, the utilization of an incinerator for residual waste treatment, and the implementation of digital administration. A total of 17 out of 28 participants (60.7%) were able to independently operate the digital system. The RE SMART Ecosystem successfully established a collaborative and sustainable waste management system with the potential for replication in other villages with similar characteristics.
