Abstract

IPAS learning in elementary schools needs to provide meaningful experiences that enable students to understand concepts while developing creativity through active learning activities. The problem identified in the fourth-grade learning process at SD Al-Islam 1 Surakarta was the low level of students’ learning outcomes and creativity, reflected in their limited involvement during learning activities. This study aimed to describe the implementation of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model and its improvement of students’ learning outcomes and creativity in IPAS learning. This study employed Classroom Action Research based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model, conducted in two cycles, with each cycle consisting of two meetings. The subjects were 25 fourth-grade students at SD Al-Islam 1 Surakarta. Data were collected through tests, observations, documentation, and product assessments and were analyzed using quantitative and qualitative approaches. The results showed that the implementation of PjBL improved students’ learning outcomes and creativity. Learning mastery increased from 32% in the pre-cycle to 60% in Cycle I and 84% in Cycle II. Students’ creativity also improved in fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. PjBL provided opportunities for students to actively participate in planning, implementing, completing, and presenting projects, making IPAS learning more active, contextual, and meaningful.
