Abstract

This article analyzes remittance management practices among former Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) in Watulimo Subdistrict, Trenggalek, using James C. Scott’s moral economy approach. The study draws on field findings from the narratives and experiences of former PMIs from diverse backgrounds, illustrating their economic strategies within the context of local moral and cultural values. The findings indicate that remittance management is not based solely on rational economic calculations but is also strongly influenced by collective values, family solidarity, social honor, and moral obligations toward parents and children. This article highlights the importance of culturally grounded empowerment in economic assistance programs for former migrant workers and recommends strengthening context-sensitive financial literacy.
