Abstract

Islam which means submission or obedience teaches the relationship between humans God and nature. Culture is a process of environmental management that reflects human thinking. Islam can collaborate with local culture, as seen in the celebrations of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. The arrival of Islam in Indonesia influenced local architecture, art, and customs. The saints spread Islam by acculturating local cultural values. Indonesia has a rich cultural diversity. The method used in this study is a qualitative method with a literature review approach. This research began with collecting information from various sources, such as books, scientific journals, and others. The results show that the process of Islamic acculturation in the Malay and Javanese regions differs. In the Malay region, Islam became a political force, while in Java there was a dialogue between Islam and local culture. Walisongo spread Islam by integrating local culture. Islam has influenced art, literature, and architecture in Indonesia through calligraphy and mosque architecture that adopted local traditions.
