Abstract

Anemia among pregnant women remains a significant public health problem due to its potential adverse effects on maternal and fetal health. According to the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey, the national prevalence of anemia among pregnant women was 27.7%. In the working area of Martapura 2 Public Health Center, Banjar Regency, anemia prevalence reached 13.74% in Keraton Urban Village and 18.31% in Pesayangan Urban Village. These conditions highlight the need to strengthen anemia prevention and management through active community involvement. Low knowledge among health cadres, limited support from husbands and families, and limited healthcare personnel may hinder prevention efforts. Therefore, community empowerment is needed to improve knowledge and adherence through the utilization of local iron-rich food resources. This activity aimed to strengthen the role of health cadres and improve the knowledge and adherence of pregnant women and cadres in anemia prevention and management through participatory education and assistance in processing local iron-rich foods. The activity involved 30 pregnant women and 30 health cadres in Keraton and Pesayangan Urban Villages. Activities included preparation, interactive lectures, discussions, demonstrations, hands-on practice of local iron-rich food processing, and evaluation. Data were collected using structured questionnaires consisting of 10 items for each assessment domain. Changes in knowledge and adherence before and after the intervention were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. The intervention was designed to strengthen community participation and practical skills in anemia prevention and management among pregnant women and health cadres.
