Abstract

The gospel is the good news of humanity's salvation from the bondage of sin, mandated by the Lord Jesus to His disciples through the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20) as the church's foundation for reaching all nations. However, the church today has not carried out this task optimally, as the responsibility of preaching the gospel is often regarded solely as the duty of pastors and missionaries, compounded by a paradigm of fear of rejection and persecution. This study finds that the problem is not limited to lay members, but also extends to pastors, ministers, and Christian educators who have not been optimally involved in evangelism; a gap that has received little attention in previous research. Based on this finding, the study aims to affirm that the responsibility of preaching the gospel is a universal calling for every believer, while also formulating contextual evangelism strategies relevant to the church today. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method with a phenomenological approach through a review of literature data.Keywords:  Great Commission, responsibility of evangelism, evangelism strategy, contemporary church
