Abstract

Perineal wounds are among the most common complications encountered by postpartum mothers following vaginal delivery and have the potential to impair a mother's self-care capabilities, particularly regarding personal hygiene practices. This study aimed to analyze the influence of perineal wounds on personal hygiene practices among postpartum mothers at the Paguat Community Health Center (UPTD Puskesmas Paguat) by examining the roles of knowledge and support as factors shaping this behavior. A quantitative approach with a cross-sectional analytic survey design was employed, involving 15 postpartum mothers selected via total sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed through univariate analysis, bivariate analysis (using crosstabulation), and the non-parametric Spearman's rho correlation test. The results showed that the majority of respondents possessed good knowledge (80.0%), received good support (80.0%), and practiced good personal hygiene (80.0%). Correlation tests yielded coefficients of r = 0.994 between knowledge and personal hygiene behavior, and r = 1.000 between support and personal hygiene behavior; both associations were statistically significant (p = 0.000). It is concluded that there is a very strong, significant relationship between knowledge and support factors and the personal hygiene behavior of postpartum mothers. Strengthening education and actively involving families are recommended as key intervention strategies in primary healthcare facilities.
