Abstract

Grapes are one of the most popular horticultural commodities with high economic value. Grapes have a relatively short shelf life, and their quality will decrease during storage. The application of Light-Emitting Diodes (LEDs) is one innovative method with potential for post-harvest handling. This study aims to evaluate the effect of LED application on the quality and shelf life of the grape fruit ‘Gozv’. This study used a completely randomized design, with five LED treatments tested: red, green, blue, white, and control. The fruit was stored at room temperature under LED lighting for 12 hours per day. The results showed that blue LED significantly reduced weight loss by 39% and extended shelf life by up to 4 days compared with the control. The blue-LED also resulted the lowest softening, at 47.97 mm/kg, while the control fruit had 54.7 mm/kg. The blue LED increased total soluble solids by 6,8%, reduced respiration rates by up to 36%, and reduced ethylene production by 32%. White LED  increase glucose and fructose contents, but with higher weight loss. Among the LED light colors applied, the blue LED was identified as the most effective treatment for improving the quality and extending the shelf life of grape fruit.
