Abstract

Community service program aims to strengthen artificial intelligence (AI) literacy and digital content creation skills among residents of Tambakcemandi Village, Sidoarjo, to help establish a self-sustaining digital coastal tourism village. Despite the village’s rich potential for estuarine landscape ecotourism, the digital tourism promotion strategy implemented by the Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes) has not been fully effective due to low digital literacy and infrastructure gaps. The method applied in this program is a participatory community empowerment model through a “guided practice” approach over a three-month period, involving 25 participants comprising village youth and BUMDes staff. The results of the intervention show a significant increase in participants’ cognitive and technical capacities. Village youth have now successfully adopted generative AI (ChatGPT) as a pre-production assistant for content script development, implemented “lipstick effect” marketing strategies, and are managing TikTok and Instagram accounts autonomously. The mentoring process and quality audits ensured that the creative video outputs met the standards for digital promotion. The program’s sustainability was successfully institutionalized through the full transfer of authority over digital accounts to the local community and the provision of a digital knowledge repository. In conclusion, this community service program effectively builds digital sovereignty while stimulating the sustainable economic resilience of coastal communities.
