Abstract

Household organic waste in Bejiruyung Village, Sempor Subdistrict, Kebumen Regency, has not been managed optimally to date, unlike inorganic waste, which has been handled through the village waste bank. This community service project aims to improve community-based processing of household organic waste as a raw material for liquid organic fertilizer (POC) in Bejiruyung Village, as the current situation causes environmental pollution while also presenting untapped opportunities. Organic waste can be processed into liquid organic fertilizer (POC), which is useful for agriculture and residents’ home gardens. The Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach was used to carry out the activities. This approach involves the stages of inculturation, discovery, design, define, and destiny, engaging housewives as the primary target group through outreach, demonstrations, and hands-on practice in POC production. The results of the community service program show that the community’s knowledge and skills have improved in sorting and processing organic waste, establishing new habits in managing kitchen waste, and utilizing POC to support household-scale farming. By integrating this program into the existing waste bank system, the village’s waste management will comprehensively cover both organic and inorganic waste. Furthermore, this program opens opportunities for community-based organic waste management in the future
