Abstract

Anemia during pregnancy remains a major public health problem worldwide and contributes significantly to maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality. Multiple Micronutrient Supplement (MMS) has been recommended as an intervention to prevent anemia by providing essential micronutrients needed during pregnancy. Adherence to MMS consumption is considered a crucial factor in improving maternal nutritional status and reducing the risk of anemia. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between adherence to MMS consumption and the incidence of anemia among third-trimester pregnant women at Pasar Sabtu Public Health Center, South Kalimantan. This study employed an observational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 50 third-trimester pregnant women selected through total sampling. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis with the Chi-Square test at a significance level of α=0.05. The results showed that 31 respondents (62.0%) were non-adherent to MMS consumption and 19 respondents (38.0%) were adherent. The prevalence of anemia was found in 31 respondents (62.0%), while 19 respondents (38.0%) were not anemic. Chi-Square analysis demonstrated a significant relationship between adherence to MMS consumption and anemia incidence with a p-value of 0.000 (p<0.05). The study concludes that adherence to MMS consumption is significantly associated with anemia among third-trimester pregnant women.
