Abstract

Patients with congestive heart failure (CHF) after aortic valve replacement (AVR) often experience a decline in aerobic capacity even though heart pump function shows improvement. Structured aerobic exercise is thought to optimize cardiovascular adaptation and accelerate functional recovery after surgery. This case report aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a combination of walking exercise and static bicycle exercise in improving functional capacity in patients with Functional Class II CHF after AVR, as assessed using the Six Minute Walking Test. A 56-year-old man underwent 12 sessions of phase II cardiac rehabilitation over four weeks. All exercise sessions were stable with no signs of intolerance. This intervention proved to be safe and effective in improving aerobic capacity, cardiovascular efficiency, and overall physical function. A simple, structured, and easy-to-implement exercise program can provide significant clinical benefits to CHF patients after AVR.
