Abstract

Smoking behavior among adolescents is still one of the health problems that needs attention. The presence of cigarette-selling stores around schools may make it easier for students to find and obtain cigarettes. This study aimed to determine the distribution of cigarette-selling stores around SMP Negeri 4 Muara Bungo, identify students' access to cigarette-selling stores, describe students' smoking behavior, and determine the relationship between access to cigarette-selling stores and students' smoking behavior. This study used a quantitative method with a spatial approach. Spatial analysis was carried out using a Geographic Information System (GIS) with QGIS and a 200-meter buffer analysis from the school location. Data on access and smoking behavior were collected using questionnaires. The study involved 96 students as respondents. The data were analyzed using frequency and percentage distributions, followed by Fisher's Exact Test to determine the relationship between access to cigarette-selling stores and smoking behavior. The mapping results showed that there were still cigarette-selling stores around SMP Negeri 4 Muara Bungo, including stores located within a 200-meter radius of the school. Of the 96 respondents, 92 students (95.8%) were categorized as having easy access, while 4 students (4.2%) were categorized as having difficult access. Based on smoking behavior, 52 students (54.2%) were categorized as smokers and 44 students (45.8%) as non-smokers. The Fisher's Exact Test showed a p-value of 0.330 (p > 0.05), indicating that there was no significant relationship between access to cigarette-selling stores and students' smoking behavior.
