Abstract

Academic resilience refers to students’ ability to adapt, persist, and recover from academic challenges and stressors. Observations at SMPN 14 Mataram revealed that many eighth-grade students demonstrated low resilience, indicated by poor motivation, low self-confidence, and difficulty managing academic pressure. This study aimed to examine the effect of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) using the ABC Model on students’ academic resilience in the 2025/2026 academic year. Employing a quantitative approach with an experimental one-group pretest–posttest design, the research involved 10 purposively selected students. Data were collected through questionnaires, observations, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using a Paired Sample t-test with SPSS version 26. Findings showed that the mean resilience score increased from 50.5 in the pretest to 84.3 in the posttest. The hypothesis test indicated |t| = 13.251, exceeding the critical value of 2.262, with a significance level of p < 0.001, confirming that the intervention had a statistically significant impact. These results demonstrate that REBT with the ABC Model effectively enhances students’ ability to manage academic stress, maintain motivation, and strengthen confidence in learning. The study highlights the importance of cognitive-behavioral counseling approaches in fostering resilience among adolescents, particularly in junior high school contexts where academic demands and developmental changes often create psychological pressure. In conclusion, the REBT ABC Model is a practical and effective counseling strategy to improve academic resilience, offering implications for school counselors and educators in supporting students’ mental health and academic success.
