Abstract

Teachers must instill faith-based education in students, whether in general education settings or Islamic boarding schools (pesantren). This qualitative descriptive study, utilizing a literature review approach, examines faith education as presented in the book Qathrul Ghaist by Sheikh Muhammad Nawawi Al-Jawi. Data analysis was conducted using content analysis tailored to the research objectives. The findings indicate that faith is categorized into three types: iman taqlidi (faith based on imitation/tradition), iman tahqiqi (faith based on realization/certainty), and iman istidlali (faith based on reasoning/evidence). Faith in Allah SWT entails the conviction that Allah SWT is One and possesses all attributes of perfection. Faith in angels involves the belief that angels are creatures of Allah who are perpetually obedient to Him. Faith in the scriptures of Allah SWT means believing that Allah SWT revealed His books to the prophets. Faith in the prophets entails believing in all prophets, from the first, Prophet Adam, to the last, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Faith in the Day of Judgment involves the belief that Allah SWT will cause all beings to die, resurrect them, and gather them at the Plain of Gathering (Padang Mahsyar) to be judged and assigned to either Paradise or Hell. Faith in Allah’s decree (qadar) entails the belief that all decrees originate from Allah SWT.
