Abstract

This study examines speech acts used in the To The Po!nt Aja podcast delivered by Roy Suryo as a form of strategic public communication. The background of this research lies in the importance of understanding how language is used to construct opinions and influence audiences, as studies focusing specifically on speech acts in podcast media remain limited. The objective of this study is to identify the types and functions of speech acts and to explain their dominance in the discourse. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method using content analysis of speech data obtained from the podcast. The results reveal that representative speech acts (97 data) are more dominant than directive speech acts (47 data). Representative functions include reporting, stating, mentioning, testifying, admitting, showing, and speculating, while directive functions include requesting, advising, pleading, commanding, suggesting, challenging, urging, and inviting. The main findings indicate that both types of speech acts are intensively used to convey information and influence audience responses. Therefore, this study concludes that language in podcasts is effectively utilized as a communication strategy to shape public opinion.
