Abstract

Introduction: The postpartum period is a critical phase of physical and psychological adaptation during which mothers may experience anxiety due to physiological changes, new maternal responsibilities, and role adjustments. Postpartum anxiety may negatively affect maternal recovery, infant care, and maternal well-being. Lavender aromatherapy has been recognized as a complementary non-pharmacological intervention that promotes relaxation and reduces anxiety through its calming effects on the central nervous system. Preliminary observations conducted at Tiara Husada Clinic indicated that a considerable number of postpartum mothers experienced anxiety. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the effect of lavender aromatherapy on anxiety levels among postpartum mothers. Method: This study employed a quantitative pre-experimental design using a one-group pretest–posttest approach. The study population consisted of 53 postpartum mothers receiving care at Tiara Husada Clinic. A total of 35 participants were selected through purposive sampling, with the sample size determined using the Slovin formula. Anxiety levels were measured before and after the intervention, and the data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. Result: The findings demonstrated a statistically significant reduction in anxiety levels following the administration of lavender aromatherapy. The Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test yielded a p-value of 0.001 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference in anxiety levels before and after the intervention. Conclusion: There is an effect of lavender aromatherapy on postpartum maternal anxiety at Tiara Husada Clinic.
