Abstract

Dietary adherence among hospitalized children remains a common problem that may affect nutritional status and recovery. This study aimed to analyze differences in children's dietary adherence before and after nutrition education through animated videos. The independent variable was nutrition education through animated videos, while the dependent variable was children's dietary adherence measured by food waste. This quantitative study employed a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The sample consisted of 30 hospitalized children in the pediatric ward of Naibonat Regional General Hospital, Kupang Regency, selected using census sampling. Data were collected using the food weighing method and analyzed with the Wilcoxon test and Paired Sample T-Test. The results showed that the mean food waste decreased from 37.6 ± 13.6 to 14.6 ± 7.4 after the intervention (p=0.000; p<0.05). The study concluded that nutrition education through animated videos was effective in improving dietary adherence among hospitalized children. It is recommended that hospitals integrate animated video media into routine nutrition education programs to enhance the quality of nutritional services and support patient recovery.
