Abstract

The cattle farming sector plays a vital role in supporting food security and the local economy, particularly in Ekatiro Village, Bontotiro District, Bulukumba Regency, where the majority of the population are livestock farmers. Farmers generally still employ traditional husbandry methods specifically extensive grazing reliant on fresh forage which leads to reduced livestock productivity during the dry season. This community service initiative aimed to increase farmers' income, establish a sustainable livestock business model, and strengthen the local economy in Ekatiro Village. Participants included farmers, local youth, and university students participating in the Community Service Program (KKN). The farmers gained a better understanding of semi-intensive husbandry systems and the stages of producing fermented feed ranging from forage chopping and the addition of microorganisms to airtight packaging while the youth and students acquired new insights into the business potential of livestock farming based on local feed processing. The initiative demonstrated that the active involvement of various community groups in adopting semi-intensive husbandry and fermented feed processing can enhance farmers' self-reliance in securing high-quality feed; consequently, ongoing guidance is required to ensure the independent implementation of these technologies within the community.
