Abstract

Introduction: Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) may delay recovery after spinal anaesthesia. A presurvey at RSU Emanuel estimated that PONV occurred in approximately 15% of patients each month and could persist despite ondansetron. Objective: This community service activity aimed to describe changes in PONV categories following education and Pericardium 6 (P6) acupressure. Method: A descriptive one-group before-after evaluation was conducted from 23 July to 12 August 2026 among 30 adult patients with PONV after spinal anaesthesia. After institutional permission, ethical approval, and written consent, participants received leaflet-based education, baseline assessment using the Gordon Score, three minutes of standardized P6 pressure, and immediate reassessment within an approximately 15-minute session. Data were summarized using frequencies and percentages. Result: Before the session, 28 participants (93.3%) had nausea only (Score 1) and 2 (6.7%) had vomiting or retching (Score 2). At immediate reassessment, 12 participants (40.0%) reported no nausea or vomiting (Score 0), 18 (60.0%) still had nausea, and none was recorded in Score 2. Conclusion: The session was followed by a favorable change in the distribution of PONV categories. Because there was no control group, follow-up was immediate, and antiemetic and perioperative factors were not controlled, the findings do not establish causal effectiveness. P6 may be considered a simple adjunct to routine PONV management with continued clinical monitoring.
