Abstract

Amelogenesis imperfecta (AI) is a hereditary genetic disorder that affects development and structure of dental enamelcharacterized by enamel hypoplasia or hypomineralization, resulting in abnormally shaped, fragile teeth that are prone to fracture and caries. This condition affects both primary and permanent dentitions. Amelogenesis imperfecta includes several subtypes, each with distinct clinical characteristics depending on the underlying genetic mutation. Patients with AI typically experience significant enamel loss and require restorative treatment to protect the remaining tooth structure and improve asthetics. This article aims to discuss the etiology, pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, and management of Amelogenesis Imperfecta. Composite resin is the one of preferred restorative material for anterior and posterior teeth due to its favorable aesthetic properties, low thermal conductivity, ease of manipulation, sufficient durability for anterior application, and insolubility in oral fluids. Application of resin composite improves the aesthetics of anterior teeth affected by amelogenesis imperfecta and reduces the risk of caries.
