Abstract

Waste management in the school environment requires adequate facilities to encourage students to develop responsible habits in disposing of and sorting waste. The limited availability of waste bins and the unused potential of discarded water gallons became the basis for this community service activity. Conducted through the 2026 Integrated Educational Internship (MKT) program of Universitas Tidar at SMP Negeri 2 Muntilan, this activity aimed to transform used gallons into creative waste bins that could support waste sorting and environmental awareness among students. The activity employed a participatory approach consisting of environmental observation, material preparation, design, production, placement, and evaluation. The used gallons were cleaned, modified, and decorated to create attractive waste bins and were labeled according to different types of waste. The findings showed that 20 creative waste bins were successfully produced and handed over to the school for use in several areas. The utilization of used gallons provided additional value to discarded materials while producing simple and economical waste-sorting facilities. The presence of these creative waste bins also provided students with direct opportunities to practice sorting waste according to its type. This activity implies that transforming used gallons into creative waste bins can serve as a practical and environmentally friendly alternative for supporting school waste management and fostering students’ environmental awareness.
