Abstract

Digital learning innovation is increasingly needed to create interactive science learning that suits students’ characteristics, particularly on natural disaster material in elementary school. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of Quizizz interactive media as a digital learning innovation in improving grade 5 students’ understanding of natural disaster material. This research employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design, involving 30 grade V students of SDN Sawojajar 6, Malang, East Java, Indonesia, selected through total sampling. Data were collected using a 20-item understanding test administered as a pretest before and a posttest after learning with Quizizz, then analyzed through normality testing, a paired sample t-test, and an N-Gain Score analysis. The results showed the data were normally distributed, and the paired sample t-test obtained a significance value of .000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores. The N-Gain analysis produced an average score of 0.6179 or 61.79%, categorized as medium and fairly effective. These findings indicate that Quizizz interactive media is fairly effective in enhancing elementary school students’ understanding of natural disaster material.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the implementation of a school discipline culture through daily assemblies and the School Environment Officer Program (Petugas Lingkungan Sekolah/PLS) in shaping students’ disciplinary character at SDN Sawojajar 6 Malang. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach involving 336 students, 4 students serving as PLS officers, and 2 teachers. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation. Observations were conducted using an instrument consisting of seven discipline indicators: punctuality, compliance with school rules, proper use of school attributes, orderly behavior during assemblies, responsibility in following school regulations, consistency of disciplined behavior during classroom learning, and habituation of discipline in daily school activities. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings revealed that the discipline culture was consistently implemented through morning and afternoon assemblies, adherence to school regulations, proper use of school uniforms and attributes, and the habituation of disciplined behavior during learning activities and daily school routines. Observation results showed that the achievement level of discipline indicators ranged from 71.1% to 89.9%, with the highest achievement found in students’ orderly behavior during assemblies and the lowest in compliance with wearing complete school attributes. In addition, the PLS program strengthened the discipline culture by actively involving students in maintaining school order and encouraging their peers to follow school regulations. The findings suggest that the development of students’ disciplinary character is more effective when supported by continuous habituation, a consistent school culture, and active student participation. Therefore, the implementation of a school discipline culture contributes positively to the development of disciplinary character among elementary school students.

Abstract

The digital age, educational management increasingly depends not only on technology adoption but also on frontline educators' metacognitive capacity to monitor, regulate, and adapt their practice under conditions of uncertainty. This study examines this capacity through an in-depth analysis of Special Companion Teachers (Guru Pendamping Khusus/GPK) who realise inclusive education rights for early childhood learners with autism spectrum disorder at PAUD Terpadu Anak Saleh Malang, an exemplary inclusive institution at the regional level. Employing Permendikbudristek No. 48 of 2023 on Reasonable Accommodation for Students with Disabilities alongside metacognitive and reflective-practice frameworks as an analytical lens, this research constructs a comprehensive understanding of how self-monitoring, self-regulation, and digitally mediated coordination shape policy implementation at the micro level. A qualitative approach with an intrinsic case study design was applied through data triangulation encompassing semi-structured interviews, field observations, and documentary analysis. Findings indicate that GPK function as street-level bureaucrats whose effectiveness as educational managers rests on four interrelated dimensions: (1) systematic pre-learning commitment grounded in multidisciplinary collaboration and distributed leadership for Individual Learning Programme (ILP) development; (2) metacognitive self-regulation, evidenced through real-time monitoring of children's emotional escalation cues and iterative revision of intervention strategies; (3) pedagogical competence expressed through tactile learning media engineering, instructional differentiation, and digitally supported progress tracking; and (4) digitally enabled communication partnership management, particularly the use of daily logbooks and instant-messaging platforms to sustain school-family intervention continuity in near real time. The study also identifies two structural issues requiring urgent management and policy intervention: formal qualification gaps among non-special education GPK and parental fiscal unaffordability of inclusive operational costs in private early childhood institutions. The findings offer implications for transformative educational leadership and digital-age management practice, and policy recommendations are directed to the Ministry of Education and regional governments to establish formal GPK certification pathways, metacognitive-oriented professional development, and subsidy mechanisms for private inclusive PAUD operational costs.
