Abstract

This study analyzes Syekh Az-Zarnuji’s ideas on learning and teaching ethics in Islamic education and examines their relevance to contemporary character education based on ASWAJA, Islamic moderation, and national values. The study uses library research with philosophical, conceptual, and descriptive-analytical approaches. Data were collected through documentation of primary and secondary literature and analyzed using content and conceptual analysis. The findings show that learning ethics include sincere intention, respect for teachers, choosing a good peer environment, perseverance, and discipline. Teaching ethics emphasize teachers as moral exemplars, teaching with compassion, and practicing the knowledge taught. These principles are relevant to contemporary character education because they integrate intellectual, spiritual, moral, and social dimensions. The study concludes that Az-Zarnuji’s thought remains a useful philosophical foundation for developing Islamic education that strengthens character, moderation, social responsibility, and national values.
